Dusi Canoe Marathon - Annually in January

Battle of Isandlwana Re-enactment - Annually in January
On the slopes of Isandlwana, the great battle between the British and the Zulu is re-enacted.
It
was during this battle on the 22nd of January, 1879, that
over 1 300 British soldiers and 1 000 Zulus lost their
lives when they fought against some 30 000 Zulu warriors.
This clash was a turning point of the Anglo-Zulu War of
1879. This is a major tourist and cultural event, with
Zulu regiments taking part in a spectacular military parade

Comrades Marathon - Annually in June
The Comrades Marathon 2014 race was an “up run” from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Entrants from all over the world participate in this event, with circa 12,000 entrants.
The first ten winners (male & female categories) each receive a Gold Kruger Rand. Those who complete the race within seven hours receive a Silver Medal, those who finish within the allotted 11 hours qualify for a Bronze Medal. See the Comrades web site for more info.
Sardine Run - Annually in June
The winter migration of sardines run along the Kwa Zulu Natal coast line. Fishermen and locals alike gather these little silver fish in large volumes as they breach the shallow waters. This is a unique experience not seen elsewhere in the world. It attracts 10 species of Albetros that would not normally be seen. They also attract dolphins, sharks, whales and other species closer into shore, making them visible to the public.
